On Thursday, November 15, it was time for a visit from big sister Lauren and Oma.
When Lauren entered Suzanne's hospital room, the first thing that caught her eye was the wheelchair.
"What's that doing there?" she wanted to know, and she sounded pretty disturbed.
"It's for your mommy. She's sick," Oma told her.
"No, she's not." Lauren's voice was deathly contradictory. She wasn't having any part of that notion.
"Not sick, but you know she had to be cut open to get the baby out," I said.
"So?"
"So getting cut hurts," I said.
"There's nothing wrong with her legs," Lauren informed me.
Later, when she was sure her mother was okay, she tried out the chair for herself. Here she is with a bag of potato chips.
Lauren got to see the baby, because Mom is one of the NICU nurses, and her friends did her the favor. I'll have pictures of that first meeting later. They are on Dennis's camera.
Aidan was less in need of reassurance, and just had to be kept from climbing his mother and bouncing.
He also needed to be kept from eating Lauren's potato chips off the floor.
Mother was kind of disappointed that the cafeteria was closed. I have to agree, our eating habits have been a little irregular these past two weeks.
When she got to see the baby, she was a little happier, but we didn't hold him this night.
This is Baby Boy Frey's isolette.
Here's another part of the NICU...
...and this is our baby's neighbor.
This baby is very very tiny.
New Mommy floating around the room.
Suzanne could look a little better. She had an awful lot of pain med
in her, and didn't remember much of this visit.
At home, at my house, Oma and Aidan spent a few quiet moments. The chest on the left holds toys, but they were all on the floor at this point. The tub on the right is a favorite just now. Aidan likes to get in it and rock back and forth until he falls over. He wanted Oma to see him do this, and he yelled "Oma, Oma, Oma," and finally, when she didn't get the message, he produced a new word; "WATCH!"
